Software marketing videos

Tell the story of your software in ninety-ish action-packed seconds

Our marketing videos, often called product trailers, quickly show your audience what you do, who you help, and how you solve their problem. They're great for home pages, Product Hunt launches, LinkedIn, and other social platforms.

To support the launch of FluidSEO on Product Hunt, we created a product trailer that quickly highlights the best of the solution for Webflow users.

Why you need a marketing video in your funnel

Tell prospects a story

Product trailers are a great way to get potential customers excited about your product without making them sit through a 20-minute walkthrough, fumble through a trial, or wait for the next available sales meeting.

Set up your sales meetings

It’s much easier to position, sell, and tell your product’s story when the prospect already has a sense of what it can do for them. Set expectations early so that when you get on a sales call, they’re already a step further down the funnel.

Go deeper than the H1

If you’re worried you can’t show and tell everything that makes you epic in your website’s H1, a video is a great way to make up for it without making your audience work or feel like they’re reading a thesis.

How we build our marketing videos

Our trailer-making process isn’t some guarded secret.

We believe there’s an art to creating a great product trailer, and we’ve spent a lot of time perfecting it. The result is a fast, engaging way to show off your product and your message.

Our approach is simple: it’s like a slideshow, but way cooler, and with a play button.

We use Canva’s motion tools (yes, really) to build slides that highlight the best parts of your product and bring your message to life.

The best trailers run 90 to 120 seconds or less and use around 40 slides. That might sound like a lot, but it includes product transitions like buttons being clicked or words changing.

Consent Kit needed a homepage video that quickly explained who their product is for and how it helps research operations teams run more ethical, efficient user research.

Project Phases

Phase One: Scripting with video

The script is always the first step in the project. It anchors everything we’ll show on screen.

In general, the script follows this storyline:

1 | Setting the Context

What is the product and who is it for?

2 | Solving the Problem

What are customers trying to overcome when they come to you? What are the recurring problems?

3 | How it Works

What parts of the product best show how you approach this problem?

4 | Where’s the Proof?

What does good look like? Can you give examples? Where’s the proof?

5 | Call to Action

What do you want viewers to do next? What’s the logical next step?

Phase Two: Storyboarding

Once the script is signed off, it’s time to bring it to life with visuals. Storyboards are a bit like rough website wireframes. We map out the components to build and work with you to choose the best parts of your product to showcase.

We usually recommend focusing on specific areas of the experience rather than showing a full dashboard in every slide. You can also start with a top-down view and zoom in, like going from a map to street view.

At this stage, we’ll also set the visual style for your content. That means working with you on brand guidelines, preferences, and anything you love or want to avoid.

Phase Three: Building

Lights, camera, time for action. Once we hit the building stage, we usually head into our cave for a bit. If the first two phases are clear and well-aligned, we’re in a good position to run with it.

The build-out typically takes 7 to 10 working days.

Good to know: You’ll get to do one revision cycle of the work for each project phase, excluding handover. These revisions are included in the scope.

Watch our marketing video for The Ick App

We created a marketing video for the top of the landing page to show the value of The Ick App to potential customers, all without using a voiceover.

Phase Four: Final Touches

This is where it starts to get really exciting. The final touches. We’ll come back to you for input on key details like:

  • Music

  • Voiceover Accent

  • Captions

For voiceovers, we work with a wonderful voice artist (a real human, can you believe it) named Toby Ricketts. We also use Synthesia for realistic AI voiceovers when that’s a better fit for the project.

Phase Five: Handover

When we’re done, we’ll hand everything over to you, including an editable Canva version of the video, the audio, transcript, and a quick Loom showing how to make edits if you want to change anything.

We’ll also give you a short description and timestamps for chapters, so you’re ready to share your video across different channels easily.

FAQs

  • Each phase, except handover, comes with one revision cycle where you can send it back to the kitchen. Further revisions will be scoped and charged at our hourly rate.

  • We export videos as 4k .mp4 files but if you need it to be smaller, no problem, we can do that too.

  • Sure! It’s your video, not ours. And if you have big changes and aren’t sure how to approach it, you can always come to us. We won’t take it personally. Products change a lot!

  • The length of the project depends on the number of revisions, but as a general guide, a smooth project takes around 4 weeks from kick-off to handover, or about 6 weeks with revisions. We don’t rush the process because we want to give you a video you’re genuinely proud of and can use again and again in different ways.

  • All audio and visuals will be licensed for you to use across all media, except television and paid advertising. If you’d like to use the video for those purposes, no problem. We’ll quote the extended license separately.
